Willoughby restaurants offer deals for toys

Posted: Updated:
WILLOUGHBY, OH (WOIO) -

Downtown Willoughby is dressed for the occasion.  The Downtown Willoughby Stroll, the city's annual kick-off to the holiday season, opens on Thursday and one of the highlights this year is the effort by the Downtown Willoughby Restaurant Association to help out Toys for Tots.

From December 1st through December 21st, you'll get t 10% off your food tab, at any of the 14 restaurants simply by bringing in a new unwrapped toy for Toys for Tots.

Seamus Coyne, a co-owner of the Wild Goose, went to the association with the idea and it quickly evolved into one of the biggest drives for Toys for Tots in Lake and Geauga Counties.

"To have so many restaurants involved is a great thing, it should be a great kick-off weekend.  We hope a lot of people come in to take advantage of the ten percent offer because that means will be in position to bring in a lot of toys.  I'm excited about it I think everyone is," said Coyne.

It's obviously a generous Christmas contribution to Toys for Tots, and Tim Sherman the coordinator for the group in Lake and Geauga Counties is more than grateful.

"The economy where it is at now has so many families looking for some assistance and that's what we are here for.  Our mission is to go ahead and provide a Christmas for a child in need," said Sherman.

5,000 families in Lake and Geauga Counties have already signed up for assistance from Toys for Tots, and many more will before Christmas.
