OLMSTED TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

An 80-year-old Olmsted Township woman who hit and killed a 13-year-old boy and then fled the scene has finally been convicted.

Helen Fettes pled no contest to a series of charges, including tampering with evidence and failure to stop after an accident.  Judge Hollie Gallagher then found her guilty.

The grandmother was behind the wheel in October 2011 when she struck Charlie Kho on Cook Road and took off.  Kho was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center. He died the next day, on his birthday.

Olmsted Township police were tipped off to Fettes' car after it was brought into a Ganley Body Shop for repair and the woman wanted to pay for the damages herself.

The receptionist knew something was not quite right, and contacted police.

Fettes will be sentenced in January.
