Hazell, who was named the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year, is 16-9 in his two seasons as the Golden Flashes head coach. He lead Kent State to it's first bowl game in 40 years this season when they take on Arkansas State in the GoDaddy.com Bowl on January 6.
On Monday, Mike Carmin of the Lafayette Journal and Courier reported some members of the Purdue athletic department flew to Kent to interview Hazell.
University of Cincinnati head coach Butch Jones was also interviewed for the Purdue job. However, according to Tom Fornelli of CBSSports.com, he turned down an offer to coach the Boilermakers.
