Police investigate deadly home invasion on east side of Cleveland
Sheeley and his son
Scene on E. 99th near St. Clair
CLEVELAND, OH -
The Cleveland Police Department is investigating a fatal home invasion that happened on E.99th St. near St. Clair Ave. The incident took place around 6:40 p.m. Saturday.
The 25-year-old male, later identified as Dontel Sheeley Sr., was reported to have been shot three times in the head, neck, and chest. Sheeley was pronounced dead on the scene by EMS.
Witnesses tell police they saw two black males forcibly enter a home before hearing gunshots.
The suspects fled the scene before police arrived. At this time it is unknown if both males fired a weapon at Sheeley.
Friends of Sheeley say they don't know who would have wanted to hurt him. They say he was a devoted family man who loved his young son. They knew him by his nickname, "Smoke."
"It's just like why? You know what I'm saying? He don't do much. He just takes care of his family, his son, work - that's basically it," said one woman who didn't want to be identified.
Neighbors say he was very popular and always had a lot of people coming to visit him.
The Cleveland Division of Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene along with the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the final cause of death.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 216-623-5464.
