19-year-old arrested in Painesville Township stabbing

PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

A 19-year-old man was arrested for a stabbing in Painesville Township over the weekend.

It happened on December 22 just before 1:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Newell Street.

As deputies arrived, it was quickly learned that 24-year-old Delonta L. Gilree had been stabbed in his chest and abdominal area. 

19-year-old George P. Caldwell was determined to be the person that had stabbed Gilree.

Caldwell readily disclosed that he and Gilree had been involved in a physical altercation and that he had stabbed Gilree. Caldwell surrendered the folding knife that he had used to stab Gilree to deputies on scene.

Gilree was rushed to Tri-Point ER and then transferred via Lifeflight to Metro General Hospital where he underwent surgery to repair internal injuries. He remains in the intensive care unit at Metro General.

Caldwell was also transported to Tri-Point ER where he was treated and released for superficial injuries he had sustained during the altercation.

Caldwell was taken into custody after being treated and transported to the Lake County Jail. Caldwell was booked into the jail for charges of Felonious Assault and Underage Consumption.
