CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
In anticipation of the forecasted snow event, the City of Cleveland has its snow removal fleet of 48 trucks and 12 road graders ready to be deployed.
Crews have also been out pre-treating the Shoreway and downtown bridges. There will be between 48 and 52 drivers on-duty around the clock for the next 24 hours with a number of auxiliary crews on standby should the snowfall exceed 8-10 inches.
Depending on the conditions, some of the crews working on the main thoroughfares may transition to residential streets to plow. The division of streets currently has approximately 18,000 tons of salt on hand with another 2,500 tons in transit.
When snow accumulation exceeds 2 inches or more, the Public Safety Director of the city of Cleveland will enact a snow emergency parking ban. This will allow snow plows sufficient time to remove snow and ice and move through city streets at a good pace. When a snow ban goes into effect, stopping, standing and parking of vehicles will be restricted and prohibited on city streets with posted red and white signs.
Once the parking ban begins it will continue until further notice. Anyone who fails to comply will be ticketed and towed.
The Mayor's Office asked the private sector - downtown and University Circle - to release employees at 1 p.m. All non-essential public employees were to be released at 2 p.m.
