CHARDON, OH (WOIO) -

City and school leaders are now asking residents to remove the red ribbons placed on public property after the deadly shooting at Chardon High School this past February.

The red ribbons were placed all over the area as a sign of support and remembrance.

"To continue the healing process for the community, it has been decided to remove the ribbons on public property and to use the ribbons to construct a more permanent item of remembrance for presentation to the families of the victims," according to the news release sent out by the city.

All red ribbon donations may be dropped off in the front lobby at the Chardon Municipal Center, 111 Water Street.

On February 27, 2012, 3 students were shot and killed in the Chardon High School cafeteria and 3 other students were wounded. Fellow student, TJ Lane, has confessed to the shootings. His trial is scheduled to start in January in Geauga County Common Pleas Court.
