EAST CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
East Cleveland City Council voted Thursday night to cut 20% of every department's budget, effective immediately, including the Police Department.
The city is already under a fiscal emergency facing an $8 million deficit.
Councilwoman Barbara J. Thomas says the council is being fiscally responsible and is asking the residents to be patient.
The next council meeting is Wednesday, January 2 at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
Mayor Gary Norton will make the decision on the final cuts.
