BAY VILLAGE, OH (WOIO) -

The Cleveland Triathlon Club hosted its 10th annual Polar Bear Plunge at Huntington Beach on New Years Day.

Over 300 tri athletes and friends ran into Lake Erie where the water temperature is only 38 degrees!

The swim was quick! Most ran into the water until they were waist deep, took a dive and ran right back out!

The Polar Bear Plunge began in 1993, when 7 fearless tri athletes braved the icy waters of Lake Erie for the first time. Each year the event grows.
