CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
"Her kind loving way. She never had a bad thing to or word for anybody."
Sadness fills the halls of a Cleveland apartment complex after residents learn that their neighbor and friend was killed early Wednesday morning. The victim's son was consoled by a grief stricken friend.
"She was a sweet lady," says friend Marilyn Mellot. "She never had a bad thing to or word for anybody," expressed Ella Maekilbane.
81-year old Maxine Lobins loved by many.
The great grandmother and retired art teacher killed by a hit and run driver. It happened just a couple of blocks from where she lived.
Investigators say Lobins left Steak 'n Shake on Lorain Avenue and was trying to cross with her walker in the cross walk when a black van hit her, then took off.
"No way to die for a beautiful lady. I just can't believe it," says Maekilbane.
Now those who knew Maxine best want justice for the woman who touched so many lives. A woman who lost her life at the hands of a heartless hit and run driver.
"It's a terrible thing you did and whoever you are I hope you have the charity in your heart to come and confess because I don't know how you could live with yourself," says Maekilbane.
Investigators are looking for a black van that has front end damage. If you know call Cleveland police.
