61-year-old critically injured in Portage County crash

ROOTSTOWN TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

A 61-year-old Canfield man critically injured in a Portage County accident late Friday afternoon.

The one-vehicle crash happened around 5:30 p.m. on IR 76 between SR 44 and SR 14 in Rootstown Township.

The driver of a 2002 Saturn, identified as 24-year-old Eva Heckert, traveled off the right side of the road, striking the guard rail before coming back across the east bound lanes into the median and striking the concrete barrier.

Heckert was transported to Robinson Memorial Hospital by Rootstown EMS. No word on her condition at this time.

Her passenger, Gerald Petrock, was rushed to Akron City Hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

An investigation is underway by the Ravenna post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
