North Royalton Police issue Craigslist warning

Posted: Updated:
NORTH ROYALTON, OHIO (WOIO) -

Police put out a warning on their Facebook page, warning residents of a Craigslist scam.

According to North Royalton Police, a resident was checking Craigslist for houses to rent and came across an ad for a local home for rent. The complainant contacted the name listed on the ad. The lister stated she was out of town, but that the complainant could send her money for the rental anyway.

The complainant went to the see the listed property and saw a "For Sale" sign in the yard. The complainant spoke with the neighbors, who happened to be the seller's parents, who reported that the house was for sale and not for rent and no ad was placed on Craigslist.

This is a very popular Craigslist scam. Persons looking to rent a property should check the physical property before turning over any money.

Sellers of homes should also be aware that it is their properties that are listed as the rental property. Victims of this scam show up at the property looking to move in. Sellers should frequently check Craigslist to see if their property is targeted.
