Miami issues campus crime alert after attempted theft

OXFORD, OH (FOX19) -
Miami University has issued a crime alert after an attempted theft at Alumni Hall.

A male staff member reported to Miami University Police that at approximately 11:19 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 13,  he encountered an unknown male in a basement room of Alumni Hall. While questioning the suspect about why he was in the room, the staff member noticed items near the suspect that would indicate he was attempting to commit a theft.  The staff member again confronted the suspect as to why he was in the room, at which point the suspect fled the room and the building on foot, leaving behind numerous items. 

The suspect is described as a heavy set white male, possibly in his 40s, 5'8" to 5'9" tall, brown and graying hair, unshaven, wearing a dark winter coat, dirty jeans and a brown/gray golf cap

No injuries were reported. Anyone with information about this incident, please contact the MUPD at 513-529-2222.
