An officer-involved shooting in the city of Akron late Tuesday night.
Around 11:30 p.m., officers were called to a fight call in the 700 block of Lafollette Street. The homeowner reported he had just arrived home from work and was talking on the phone to a friend as he was gathering up his trash for curb service.
The homeowner heard a loud crash at the rear of the house and then noticed the suspect, 23-year-old Mark A. Losh, who is homeless, entering the rear door with a rifle. Losh then set the rifle down and started assaulting the homeowner by punching him in the face, choking him and then put a knife to the homeowner's neck.
The homeowner's friend on the phone could hear the commotion inside the house. The friend then called police.
When the officers arrived on the scene, they could see a fight between two people inside of the house. Officers announced their presence and entered the house through the broken door. Once inside the house, Losh picked up the rifle. Officers ordered Losh to drop the rifle. Losh then turned and raised the rifle towards the officers when one officer fired several shots, striking Losh in the abdomen.
Losh was transported to Akron City Hospital where his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
The homeowner had minor injuries to his face and neck. No officers were injured.
Warrants were signed on Mark Losh for Aggravated Burglary, Aggravated Robbery, Felonious Assault and Felonious Assault on a Peace Officer.
The officer involved is a five-year veteran of the police department. He was placed on paid administrative leave.
