AKRON, OH (WOIO) -
The Akron father charged in connection with the shooting death of his young son was in court on Thursday.
Terrance Allen, 48, pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter, felony child endangering, weapons under disability and tampering with evidence in the death of his four-year-old son, Jamarcus Allen.
The shooting happened just before 10 a.m. Wednesday in a car at S. Arlington Street and Davies Avenue.
Police say the boy was riding in a car with his father when he was shot. The father then flagged down a Sheriff's Deputy, who immediately had his dispatch call Akron Police.
EMS rushed the child to Children's Hospital, where he died.
The Summit County Medical Examiner says the child was shot one time and in the face. It is too early at this time to know who fired the gun, but the death has been ruled a homicide.
Police confirm there was a bullet hole through the roof of the car.
"The vehicle did have a bullet hole in the ceiling, but we're trying to determine if that happened here or somewhere else," said Akron Police Lt. Rick Edwards.
Allen's bond was set at half a million dollars. He's due back in court on February 8.
