BEDFORD, OH (WOIO) -

A rescue operation for a man in distress in the Lost Meadows picnic area in Bedford is now a recovery effort.

Cleveland Metroparks tells 19 Action News that a male is deceased at the bottom of a cliff in the Bedford Metroparks Reservation. He had fallen about 50 feet.

It appears this was just a very unfortunate accident.  Investigators say they do not suspect foul play.

A passerby called police just before 6:00 PM after he saw what looked like a body in the snow. It's not clear how long the man had been there. When rangers and firefighters arrived the man was not responsive.

"It looked like he was along a bridal trail at the time. He fell down a cliff and then there is a ravine below that.  So they had to climb down the ravine on one side then climb back up the hill and recover the person," said Monica Banks Hines, Cleveland Metroparks.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiners office has identified the victim as Randy Prosen, 37, of Northfield.

Manner and cause of death undetermined at this time.
