Store owner shot after locking up store

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Cleveland Police are investigating after a store owner was shot walking to his car after locking up his store.

It happened Friday night around 9:15 p.m.

Police say 36-year-old Melvin Appling of Cleveland had just finished locking up his store at 7809 Woodland and was walking to his car when a sky blue minivan pulled up.

A black male jumped out of the passenger side and began firing at the victim hitting him in the left side just above his hip.

The shooter jumped back in the minivan and fled.

The victim described the suspect as a black male with a light complexion, standing approximately 5'4" tall and weighing about 150 lbs.  He said the suspect was wearing a mask.
