LAKE TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Lake Township police arrested an Akron man for driving drunk and driving the wrong way over the weekend.

Walter Thiesen was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-280. And he was drunk.

"He was asked on a scale of 1-10, one being a slight buzz, 10 being falling-down drunk, how he would rate himself," explained Police Chief Mark Hummer. "He rated himself a 10."

The person that called 911 stayed on the phone with dispatch to help lead police to 163, where Thiesen was still going the wrong way. He was arrested for driving under the influence after he failed a field sobriety test and rejected a breathalyzer.

"I don't know what the answer is," Hummer said. "Impaired people, drunk people, are going to make bad decisions. They start…the minute they turn their car on…Lucky is how I would describe us in this situation."

Hummer said the area has seen enough tragic turns from drunk driving and wrong-way accidents. Fortunately, no one was hurt this time.

Thiesen will face a judge Tuesday.
