Flu deaths reported in Cuyahoga County

Posted: Updated:
CUYAHOGA COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

Cuyahoga County Health officials say 10 people, ages 65 and up, have died from the flu in just the last 3 weeks.

Since October, 642 people in Cuyahoga County have been admitted to hospitals with flu associated symptoms. That is more than 4 times the number of people who were admitted during last year's flu season.

"It's high and it's also earlier than expected. Typically we would normally see..if there were to be deaths from flu..to be in the peak season between mid Feb. and mid March," says Richard Stacklin, Cuyahoga County Board of Health Researcher.

Stacklin also says it is not too late to get a flu shot and he stresses to wash your hands often, assume the flu virus is in the very places everyone else's hands have been.

And, even though your work ethic is admirable, Stacklin says if you are sick, stay home and take care of yourself!
