The Mid-American Conference announced its 2012 Football Academic All-MAC team as voted by faculty athletic representatives at MAC institutions.  A total of 38 student-athletes were named to the 2012 Academic All-MAC team.

Toledo (Jeremiah Detmer, Zac Kerin, A.J. Lindeman, Greg Mancz, Dan Molls, Ben Pike, Matt Wall) topped the 2012 Academic All-MAC squad with seven selections, followed by Northern Illinois (Alan Baxter, Nabal Jefferson, Ryan Neir, Jason Schepler, Courtney Stephen, Rob Sterling) with six selections.

Ball State (Zane Fakes, Scott Kovanda, Tony Martin, Nick Miles, Jacob Richard) had five honorees, while Bowling Green (Tyler Beck, Dominic Flewellyn, Gabe Martin, Tyler Tate) and Central Michigan (Richie Hogan, Ryan Radcliff, A.J. Westendorp, Cody Wilson) both had four selections.

Kent State (Jake Dooley, Spencer Keith, Anthony Meray) had three selections, while Buffalo (Alex Neutz, Colby Way), Ohio (JD Bales, Neal Huynh) and Western Michigan (Justin Currie, Chris Prom) each had two honorees.  Akron (Robert Stein), Eastern Michigan (Jay Karutz) and Miami (Mason Krysinski) rounded out the selections.

Three-time selections include Scott Kovanda (Ball State), Cody Wilson (Central Michigan), Spencer Keith (Kent State), Nabal Jefferson (Northern Illinois) and Dan Molls (Toledo).

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics.  To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.  First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.

The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC team is equivalent to the number of first-team selections or 33% of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.  The remaining student-athletes have been recognized as Academic Honorable Mention selections.
