Riverside School officials warning about band scam

Posted: Updated:
PAINESVILLE TOWNSHIP, OH (WOIO) -

Riverside School officials are warning residents about a phone scam involving their band boosters.

Officials say someone is calling people in the Riverside school district, identifying themselves as part of the Riverside Band Boosters and asking the caller to purchase food items or make a donation to the uniform fund.

Unfortunately, the suspect is also able to alter their number so the school id shows up on the caller id.

Terry Weyman, Riverside Band Booster President, says the school resource officer is having a hard time tracking the phone number.

Weyman says they are hoping to find someone who has given money to this scam, then they can track the money trail.

If you have fallen victim to this scam, please contact Riverside Schools.
