Could a serial rapist be prowling east and west side streets?

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Could a serial rapist be targeting women around Cleveland?

Investigators are looking into two rapes -- both eerily similar.

The attack happened last Wednesday just after 9 PM as a 20 year old woman was walking home from the In & Out store on Lakeview Road and Durant Avenue on the city's east side.

When the victim reached her street she heard someone running towards her. She looked up and saw a man with a gun.

That man forced her to a vacant, dark field at gunpoint.

News of the attack is unnerving to other women in the area.

"Not safe. I'm not from around here. I do live here, but I'm not from around here but it's not really safe," said Cynthia Burson.

After the sexual assault, the victim told police the man took out a white iPhone and recorded her.

You may recall, a similar incident took place last Tuesday on Cleveland's west side and in that case the victim said the attacker used a video camera or cell phone.

Both women in these cases told police their attacker used a similar M.O. Assaults at gunpoint and recording the victims.

The woman in last week's attack says she saw an ID for the attacker with the name, Tyrone. Plus, he was a light-skinned black male in his 20's, tattoos up and down his arms, and he drove a gold, older model, mid-sized car.

That case has been assigned to Cleveland Police Sex Crimes investigators.

At this point, police will only say both incidents are under investigation.
