CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Cleveland is coming alive, there's construction in Playhouse Square, and the Hanna Annex is being built, which will include more than 1-hundred apartments.

In downtown Cleveland there are renovations at the City Center Hotel, and in the flats what is now an empty field will be transformed into shops, and restaurants alongside an apartment building.

The Euclid Avenue Corridor has created several billion dollars in development.

CSU accounting professor Mark Holtzblatt says this is the sign of our economy improving. "You can see it just walking down the main streets.

Holtzblatt moved to Cleveland from Chicago 6-months ago and is renting an apartment downtown.

"I think a lot of young people are starting to discover that Cleveland offers all the amenities of the big cities like Chicago or New York but the cost of living here is much more reasonable," says Holtzblatt.

Experts say Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Columbus are enjoying downtown booms with the help of investments totaling about 10-billion dollars.

"We've really seen more applications coming through our leasing office," explains Reserve Square Leasing Manager Chrissy Lapinski. The Reserve Square building in Downtown Cleveland is now adding 2-hundred more apartments to try to meet the demands of those looking to rent.

Lapinski says in the past year the demand has gone up at least 30-percent.  " We've really noticed a big change in people wanting to live downtown. They work downtown. They play downtown. They want to call this their home," says Lapinski.
