CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

19 Action News has learned some police bosses have been going over the chase policy at roll call. Officers want a clearer policy and more training and they will get it.

The policy does not call for this: 59 police cars joined this chase without permission.

So some bosses are currently going over the rules with patrol officers.

The rules allow for two patrol cars -- except for when under unusual circumstances.

Some point out that the chase started with calls of shots fired and a gun.

How do you define unusual circumstances?

The policy also calls on supervisors to control chases.

In this case a boss thought only three cars were chasing and somehow didn't know about all the others.

We've reported that no one seems to know how long it's been since Cleveland Police had training just for pursuits but officers do get regular training for traffic stops.

They were trained for defensive driving back in 2008 but nothing just for pursuits.

In fact, when supervisors get promoted they get an hour of training on chase policy but the union for bosses says there's no hands-on pursuit training for different scenarios.

This year all Cleveland officers will get pursuit training. The chief has insisted that the plan had been in the works before the big chase.

This policy is already getting more attention than it has in years.
