CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

A new report on a deadly police chase attacks the department's management, so we went cameras rolling with tough questions for Chief Michael McGrath.

In November, 62 police cars chase a driver and passenger for 22 minutes before shooting them both with 137 shots.  It could've ended peacefully had they stopped, but the state attorney general found the chase spiraled out of control due to poor police training and leadership.

We asked the chief what responsibility he takes for this. He said only, "My responsibility is to make sure the citizens get proper service."

 So we pressed.

Then he said, "My responsibility is to put together a committee and then determine what happened and if anyone violated policies and procedures there will be charges."

By phone the attorney general said he stands by his findings--saying again he found a "leadership problem."

The chief finally said,

"Ed I don't know what kind of answer you're looking for.

I do know this. The men and women of this division every day deal with pursuits and deadly force situations, and they do a great job."
