CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
Cleveland Police have charged Nicholas Carter with aggravated vehicular homicide after a woman was struck and killed Tuesday.
Cleveland Police responded to a call for a pedestrian struck at E. 142nd & Kinsman Avenue. Upon arrival on scene, Fourth District Officers were notified that EMS had taken the victim to Meridia South Pointe Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The initial investigation revealed that a red 2006 Mitsubishi pickup truck was headed southbound on E. 142nd Street south of Kinsman Avenue and struck the victim who was walking in the street southbound.
The Cuyahoga Medical Examiner identified the victim as Candase Moore, 25, of Cleveland. Her official cause of death has not yet been determined.
Investigators say after hitting the Moore, Carter was observed throwing a liquor bottle out of the vehicle into a snow bank.
Police recovered the liquor bottle, spoke to Carter who appeared to be intoxicated then placed him under arrest, they say he had a blood alcohol level of .32.
Carter is set to make his first court appearance Thursday morning.
