It was announced on TNT's pre-game show that Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving will compete in the NBA's Three-Point Contest during next weekend's All Star Game festivities.
"I'm really looking forward to competing in the Foot Locker Three-Point Contest," said Irving. "It's an honor to be part of the entire All-Star weekend and I'm thankful for the opportunity. I know it's going to be a very special experience, even more so with my Cavalier teammates there as well."
In 38 games this season, Irving is averaging a career-high 23.9 points with 3.6 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. He is shooting .429 from three-point range which ranks tenth in the NBA this season and second among point guards.
Irving will play in the Rising Stars Game on Friday night, compete in the Three-Point Contest on Saturday night and play in the All Star Game Sunday night.
Three teammates will join Irving in Houston. Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller will also play in the Rising Stars Game.
TNT analysts and former NBA All Stars Charles Barkley and Shaquille O'Neal drafted their teams for next Friday's game.
Kyrie Irving, Dion Waiters and Tyler Zeller will play for "Team Shaq," while Tristan Thompson will play for "Team Chuck."
Irving will face Golden State's Stephen Curry, New York's Steve Novak, New Orleans' Ryan Anderson, San Antonio's Matt Bonner and Indiana's Paul George in the Three-Point Contest next Saturday night.
