CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
The Indians and former Boston hurler Daisuke Matsuzaka have agreed on a minor league contract pending a physical. Assuming he passes it Matsuzaka will compete for a job in the starting rotation this spring.
The right-hander went 1-7 last season with the Red Sox with an ERA of 8.28. The 32 year-old made only 11 starts in 2012 after returning from Tommy John surgery. Matsuzaka made only eight starts in 2011.
Matsuzaka has not had a good year since 2008 when he won 18 games.
