Last-resort heating help available for Dominion customers in need
At the midpoint of the winter heating 2012-13 heating season, Dominion East Ohio continues to accept applications for EnergyShare, its last-resort heating assistance program for customers in need.
Area Ohio Salvation Army offices are still accepting applications for EnergyShare, Dominion's program that helps families who have exhausted all other forms of winter Energy assistance. As it did last year, Dominion provided an initial $500,000 contribution to support the program, which enters its 12th year in Ohio.
To qualify for EnergyShare assistance, a person must live in the Dominion service area and be a Dominion customer. A recipient must have a household income no higher than 200 percent of the federal poverty level, be unemployed or demonstrate a personal or family crisis. To ensure the widest possible distribution of EnergyShare assistance, eligible persons can receive only one payment of up to $600 per heating season.
Dominion works with local Salvation Army offices to help eligible participants. Every dollar contributed to this fund goes to pay recipients' Dominion East Ohio heating bills. EnergyShare is supported by donations from Dominion customers, employees and EnergyShare partners. Dominion covers the program's administrative costs, allowing all donations to go toward paying heating bills. Local Salvation Army offices in the Dominion service area accept the applications for EnergyShare assistance and administer distribution of the funds. In the past decade, EnergyShare has helped more than 56,000 area families, including more than 2,300 last year alone.
