"When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are"...
Browns fans, you know the words. You hear 'em everytime Disney breaks out its' post-Super Bowl MVP invitation, and this year, of course, the invitee was Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco.
Flacco became a hot topic for Browns fans on Monday after ProFootballTalk.com speculated that the Browns would be one of the teams willing to part with two compensatory first-round picks in exchange for Flacco, should the Ravens designate him with the regular Franchise Player tag (in that situation, teams could try to sign Flacco, and give up two first-round picks to the Ravens). Another option for the Ravens would be to hit Flacco with the Exclusive Franchise tag, which would lock him up in Baltimore, but cost the Ravens $22 mil a year, thereby preventing them from re-signing other key players.
The most likely scenario is that the Ravens sign their Super Bowl MVP to a long-term deal, leaving teams like the Browns to discover their own MVP. Me? I'd give Weeden another year, in a new offense (see previous blog). But there are other options out there. As they say at Disney, it's a small world, after all, but you can dream big. Browns fans always do. They'll just have to wish upon a different star than the one who led the Ravens to a title.
