Polish Village Cuisine on Fleet prepares for Paczki Day

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Councilman Tony Brancatelli encourages residents of Ward 12 to partake in the age old Lenten tradition of Paczki Day in Slavic Village.

Polish Village Cuisine, formerly Seven Roses, located at 6301 Fleet in Slavic Village is busy preparing for the annual event which will be celebrated on Fat Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013.

Since the Middle Ages in Poland, the traditional fried dough has been made during the week before Lent begins to use up all the lard, sugar, eggs and fruit in the house.  These foods are not to be consumed during Lent due to Catholic fasting practices.  Frequently described as a donut, paczki is a deep-fried dough shaped into a flattened sphere and filled with a sweet filling.

This year, Polish Village Cuisine will feature a variety of delicious treats on Fat Tuesday.

Fillings will include the traditional plum and rosehips, as well as custard, apricot, strawberry, poppyseed and lemon.  Orders can be made in advance.  Polish Village also offers traditional Polish foods for carry out including pierogi, kielbasa, potato pancakes, cabbage and noodles, and Polish baked and canned goods and a daily lunch buffet.

In celebration of Paczki Day, Polish Village Cuisine will open on Tuesday, Feb. 12 at 5 a.m.
