CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Cleveland schools CEO Eric Gordon is sounding off Tuesday about a recent report that showed Schools have been "scrubbing" or fudging the numbers they report to the state.

The CEO tells 19 Action News that none of this was intentional and with more than 40,000 students record keeping is always a challenge, but he says officials have already taken steps to fix it.

"The bad news is that we have a record keeping problem," says Gordon. "Well it's disappointing when you fail to meet your standards."

According to the Ohio Auditor, Cleveland is one of nine school districts in the state that improperly removed students from their rolls during the 2010-2011 school year so their test scores and attendance rates didn't count on state report cards.

In all more than a dozen Cleveland schools accused of scrubbing.

"There was no intentional behavior to somehow game the system. We're looking forward to addressing the challenge that exists, " says Gordon.

"We've replaced the desktops with scanners and we scan the paper attachment right into the file now and then send the paper file into student record so there's a dual record accounting," explains Gordon.
