LeBron James is the best basketball player in the NBA right now. Right Now. All due respect to his historic six-game run (going into Thursday's game against the Thunder, LeBron had averaged 30.8 points per game and shot 71.7% during that stretch), but no, he's not better than Michael. He's not better than Magic. He's not better than Larry. He's not better than Oscar, although that really is the best comparison, as Robertson was the only player to average a triple-double for an entire season, and yes, LeBron is that complete.
It's the things he doesn't possess that leave him short of the other greats. The insatiable will to win. The cutthroat mentality down the stretch. The legendary ability to not only hit the clutch shot, but to take it. He just isn't that guy. More than that, he tanked a playoff game at least once in his career. Quit. Can you imagine Michael, Larry or Magic ever doing that? Of course you can't. That leaves LeBron in his own category. A great player, the best in the game...right now. Which is enough, right now. But please, save the Air Jordan debate. It just doesn't fly.
