CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

Helping teens stay in school and graduate is just one of the important goals for the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland.

Friday, the community gathered at the Broadway location for the Youth of the Year breakfast.  The Cleveland Indians were recognized for over 25 years of support to the club.

There are 7,000 children being served by the five city clubs, but only one member can be Youth of the Year.

All five candidates are truly inspirational.  Despite many obstacles, all five will not only graduate, but all of them have received scholarships as they prepare to go on to college.

The candidates are: Daequan Tripplet from the Broadway Club, Arvell Green from the King Kennedy Club, Diamond Reese from the Heights Club, Darius Ellison from the Mt. Pleasant Club, Roberto Colon from the Westside Club.

The Youth of the Year award goes to Darius Ellison.

Darius will be entering college with $7,500 in annual scholarships with an interest in forensic science.
