AKRON, OH (WOIO) -
It was a very interesting and memorable day for the ladies of Polished Hair Designs in Akron. Marquitta Anderson is a stylist at the salon and like any other day; on Saturday, February 15, 2013, she went into work just as she has for the last five years.
No one expected little Criston to come into the world three weeks early—let alone to be born in the salon.
When Marquitta's water broke, her co-workers went into action.
"All of a sudden--boom! Puddle of water! I'm like somebody get her out of here," yelled Yvetta, a fellow stylist.
"I said I'm sorry he's coming out right now! I can't stop it! His head is down there!" said Marquitta. "I said I have to push! I have to push! I have to!"
"Our reaction was just set up labor and delivery, all of us got kids, so labor and delivery!" said Yvetta.
Yvetta instructed Marquitta to get on a bench that was the only thing in sight that she could lay on to push.
"I delivered him on a bench at the shop!" said Marquitta. "They said don't let him hit the ground! Don't let him hit the ground!
Yvetta spends her days cutting hair so she didn't skip a beat. She reached for her tools of the trade to cut the cord this time.
"Yes ma'am! The best pair I had!" said Yvetta.
When the paramedics got here, Criston's new aunties said, "Eh! We got this!"
Yvette had a message for the EMS team that arrived shortly after the delivery. "I said don't put it on the bill!! We delivered the baby!"
Little Criston was born just a few feet away from a cross that sits on the front desk that reads, "This is the day the Lord has made."
"It was just a gift from God," said Yvetta.
"He is truly a blessing," said Marquitta.
Thanks to everyone in the hair salon who stepped up to help Marquitta, it was a happy ending to a hectic delivery. Both mom and baby are fine.
