CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -
A woman reported that she was sexually assaulted by a man posing as a police officer.
According to Cleveland Police, the victim told them she was pulled over by what appeared to be an undercover police car equipped with tinted windows and a flashing bubble light.
Officers say the incident happened near the East 79th and Korman.
People in the neighborhood are worried and one man says that he was taught to respect police officers and stop when they tell you to.
The victim told investigators that stopping and respecting who she thought was an officer put her in the position to be sexually assaulted.
The victim said the impersonator also took money and medication from her purse.
The woman told police she called 911 then went to the second district to file a report.
Officers are investigating the police impersonation charge but that's not all--- the report also includes potential kidnapping, aggravated robbery, gross sexual imposition charges.
It happened in the middle of the afternoon and now those who hear about it are hoping they're not the alleged fake cop's next traffic stop.
If you are being pulled over by an officer you think may not be legit, police say stop in a well lit area and use your cell phone to call 911, then tell the dispatcher where you are and ask them to confirm the traffic stop.
