Train, car collision takes life of woman in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A collision between a car and a train took a woman's life this afternoon.

Troopers say 48 year-old Rebecca McCoy-Basore, from Hamilton, OH was going west on County Road E in Henry County.

When she failed to yield at the crossing she was struck by a train headed north.

Troopers say the car was dragged about 1,000 feet by the train before the train was able to stop.

The accident happened just before 2:00pm Sunday afternoon.

The coroner pronounced Ms. McCoy-Basore dead at the scene.

There are no lights or gates at the crossing and it isn't clear why the woman did not stop. She was wearing her seatbelt.

"If there was gates there, it probably would have at least deterred them from going through the track. I'm not sure exactly where she came across or if she saw the train or not before it happened," said Chief Willis Croninger of the Deshler Fire Department.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation.
