Athlete speaks on three reasons it’s tough to be a Christian in the NFL.
Seattle WA (PRWEB) February 19, 2013
Eddie Williams, Fullback of the National Football League Cleveland Browns, joins the Christian Post as a featured blogger on the magazine’s website. His first blog “3 Reasons it’s Tough to be a Christian in the NFL” can be read at: http://blogs.christianpost.com/release-therapy/, together with his recent entry “The Good Leader: 5 Ways to Endure the Toil of Leadership."
Williams, who is also the Young Adult Pastor of Mountain Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Covington, WA, will provide his perspective as a Christian in the NFL, together with his hope that his blog will reach a demographics that normally would not receive his message. Williams says that, “Everything in culture is preaching a message, while the message of Jesus takes a back seat. By God's grace, my goal is to help restore the Gospel’s position to where it belongs, and I am grateful to Christian Post for providing a platform.”
Williams, who resides in Seattle in the off-season, became a Christian at the age of eighteen, after a turbulent childhood in which he grew up poor and in a neighborhood where his family were robbed constantly. After moving in with his Aunt Sylvia, a devout Christian, who went to Church every week, Williams was introduced to the Bible, even though he was skeptical at first. However, he began to read the scriptures and became convinced that being a Christian was the life for him.
When Williams is not training or playing football, he finds time to speak at other churches and schools to spread the message about his faith and leadership. Williams’ passion for his faith has also led him to enroll at the Resurgence Training Center (Re:Train) at Mars Hill in Seattle, and he will continue his Masters in Divinity at Western Seminary in Portland.
Williams intends to speak more frequently across the country, and will also be conducting a number of football camps for children this summer in Seattle, San Francisco and Chicago. Williams is also currently writing his first book, of which he hopes to finish before the start of the NFL’s 2013 season.
