ROCKY HILL, CT (WFSB) -

The president of the National Rifle Association, David Keene, said he does not expect there to be a filibuster from gun rights supporters as the Senate prepares to vote on potential federal gun control issues.

Keene said the NRA wants a vote so they can then punish members of Congress that support universal background checks on gun purchases.

Keene has become the voice for gun advocates in the wake of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown in December.

In that shooting, 20 children and six adults were shot and killed with a semi-automatic rifle. The killer, Adam Lanza, shot and killed his mother before going to the school and opening fire.

Keene said rather than impose stricter gun laws he wants armed guards at every school in America because "the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun."
