FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) -

Renovations at Northern Kentucky University are scheduled for 2013 thanks to the passing of a bill allowing public universities in Kentucky to issue bonds for project financing.

Gov. Steve Beshear signed House Bill 7 into law on Thursday, authorizing $363.3 million in agency bonds by public universities for campus improvements - supported by university revenue.

Officials say 11 major construction projects at 6 state universities are planned for 2013, including updates to student housing, improving classroom spaces and more.

NKU plans a $12 million renovation project to residence halls, and a $45 million update to their Albright Health Center.

University presidents say the projects will provide a safer experience for students and faculty, as well as improve the quality of campus life and avoid more costs for students.

Other universities with projects planned include Morehead State, Murray State, University of Kentucky, University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University.

Officials say each of the projects are already in some form of planning, and construction for most will begin this year.
