Trucking is the backbone of the American economy with an estimated 70% of goods delivered by big rigs, but many truckers are losing profits. Some are even losing money now that diesel is more than $4 a gallon.

"I have never seen it this bad," complained one trucker. "I am sure it will get worse."

That trucker now paying $700 a week to fuel his big rig and that only gets about 8 miles a gallon.

"I cannot make any money," said independent trucker CW.  "The cost of diesel fuel is an accurate indicator of economic activity much more so that gas that's because diesel moves goods and commodities across the nation in fact around the globe."

Truckers are forced to pass on their increased cost to consumers which promises to be wide spread. Many say we'll soon see an increase in food, clothing and electronics -- almost anything that come to us by truck.
