
Chip Kelly says he was never close to coaching the BrownsNew Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly said he was never close to becoming the head coach of the Browns in January.
He said the numerous reports saying he was close to signing a deal were, "erroneous."
Kelly and Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and team president Joe Banner met in Arizona for a reported seven hours without coming to a deal. That night, numerous reports stated the two had come to an agreement but Kelly wanted to fulfill his agreement to meet with Buffalo and Philadelphia before signing a contract.
The Browns Rob Chudzinski to coach the team a week later.
Kelly, speaking at the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, said he chose to coach the Eagles because it was the right fit.
