WOOSTER, OH (WOIO) -
A suspect attempted to run down Troopers with the Ohio State Highway Patrol along with Wooster Police Department as they made contact with a suspicious vehicle early Sunday morning.
The incident happened around 2:10 a.m. at 1315 Smithville-Western Road just west of SR 83.
As authorities made contact with the vehicle, the driver accelerated into the yard of the residence and began driving towards the officers.
Shots were fired at the vehicle as it drove towards the officers. The vehicle and the right front passenger were struck as a result of the gun fire.
Following the shooting, the vehicle drove off the right side of the roadway and into an embankment.
The driver attempted to flee from the vehicle and resisted arrest prior to being taken into custody. He is currently at the Wayne County Justice Center.
The passenger was transported from the scene to Wooster Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries by Central Fire & EMS. He was later transported to Akron General Hospital.
