
Akron becomes MAC's first ranked basketball in five yearsThe Akron Zips broke into the USA Today Coaches Top 25 basketball poll, ranked 24th in the country.
It's the first time a Mid-American Conference team has been ranked in a poll since Kent State was ranked five years ago.
In the AP Poll, the Zips were voted 28th.
Akron is tied with Memphis for the longest winning streak in the nation at 18.
The Zips can lock up the Mid-American Conference title and the first round bye in the conference tournament with a win on Wednesday against Ohio.
Meanwhile, the Buckeyes rose a few spots in both polls, ranked 16th in the AP Poll and 15th in the USA Today poll.
Ohio State beat the 9th ranked Michigan State Spartans on Sunday, 68-60. They'll take on Northwestern on Thursday night in Evanston, Illinois.
Indiana remained the top team in both polls, while Gonzaga moved up to the 2nd spot. That's the highest the Bulldogs have ever been ranked.
