Meeting to be held to discuss fate of Sandy Hook Elementary

Posted: Updated:
NEWTOWN, CT (WFSB) -

The Newtown community continues to move forward after the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, and now residents will get another chance to have their opinions heard on what to do with the building.

Sandy Hook students will finish out the school year inside Chalk Hill Middle School in Monroe, and since the tragedy there have been mixed opinions on what to do next - tear it down or keep it?

Town leaders have been encouraging residents to voice their opinions about what to do.

Last month, hundreds of residents turned out for a forum on the topic. Some suggested a memorial to be built and others, as a show of strength, want a new, fresh school to be built over the existing location.

One thing that has been decided is that Sandy Hook will not be redistricted.

Town leaders said they're hoping to make a decision on the building by spring.

The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Reed School.
