Wintry mix to affect state Tuesday night, Wednesday morning

ROCKY HILL, CT (WFSB) -

A storm system will arrive in Connecticut late Tuesday night and into Wednesday that will bring snow, sleet and freezing rain.

Chief Meteorologist Bruce DePrest said snow, sleet and rain are expected to develop just before midnight.

"There could be a coating to an inch or two of slushy snow accumulation especially over Northern Connecticut," DePrest said.

High winds are expected overnight with the wintry mix changing to all rain, he added.

In preparation of the storm, officials from the Connecticut Department of Transportation said all the state roads have been pre-treated by crews Tuesday.

Crews and equipment are ready for the storm, DOT officials said.

The cost of the pretreatment is 8 cents per gallon, so it is very affordable, DOT officials said.

As for Wednesday, there is a coastal flood advisory in effect for Southern Fairfield and Southern New Haven Counties from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Rain is expected for Wednesday morning and it could become heavy at times, DePrest said. The rain is expected to taper off and become showers, then drizzle.
