BRUNSWICK, OH (WOIO) -
Rahna Fahringer was in her Brunswick home last November when all of a sudden, her ex-boyfriend, Terrance Abel, kicked in her back door and stormed into the house.
"He showed me the nine millimeter and said 'I came here because I am going to kill you and myself today'," Fahringer remembers.
About an hour later, as police surrounded the house, Abel waved the protection order Rahna had just filed, in her face and fired, hitting her in the leg.
"As I see the blood running all over the bed I am thinking, I couldn't believe it, I guess I am going to die today," she said.
Abel shot Rahna in a back bedroom and barricaded them in for the next 29 hours. Rahna laid on the bed and wondered if she would live, she begged Abel to let her go, pleading that her two teenage children needed their mother. SWAT negotiators finally talked Abel into letting them bring in some food, and when they went to hand it to him they tased him, but Abel did not go down. And that's when SWAT opened fire.
"All I hear is gunfire and I covered my face with my hands, I could feel my hands being hit, there was a hot burning sensation, by that time they said come on, let's go," she said.
Before he was killed, Abel fired at Rahna hitting both her hands as she covered her face. Her right hand has nerve damage, her left thumb was shattered, and her fibula was shattered from the first gun shot.
She's recovering physically, but mentally it's a struggle, "Every little noise I hear I am kind of reliving it for a split second," she says.
Rahna wants to get back to work, but she has already had multiple surgeries and faces more, and so she's struggling to raise her two kids. Donations for her family can be made at any First Merit Bank.
