MADISON COUNTY, OH (WOIO) -

Moreland Hills Police Chief Thomas Flauto pleaded not guilty to using a state computer to look up license plate information on behalf of former County Commissioner Jimmy Dimora.  He was indicted and appeared in Madison County Court on Friday.  The case is being prosecuted there because it is where the state license database is housed.

Sources say that the FBI became aware of the activity during it's investigation of Dimora in the county corruption investigation. It requested records from Moreland Hills Police for the period of July 1 through July 15, 2008.  As the case was winding down, the information was forwarded to the Ohio Attorney General's Office for review. The same data records were subpoenaed in December.  Flauto was charged in February.

Flauto served as an officer in the Bedford Heights Police Department when Dimora was Mayor there.

The Chief's status in Moreland Hills is administrative leave without pay.
