LOS ANGELES, March 1, 2013 /PRNewswire/ - Film and television production
designer Nancy Niksic has received a Canadian Screen Award Nomination
in the category of Best Production Design or Art Directing in a
Non-fiction Program or Series for her collaborative design on the
television movie, A Russell Peters Christmas Special, the highest-rated Christmas special in Canadian television history.
Many of the awards were handed out at an industry gala Thursday night.
Complete winners will be announced during a two-hour CBC telecast
hosted by Martin Short live inside Toronto's Sony Centre at 8 p.m.
(8:30 N.T), Sunday, March 3.
Niksic, a Canadian national and 20-year film-television veteran, shares
the nomination with AKA Creative Group's Andrew Kinsella, Kyle
Sanvictores and Christine Choi.
"I worked in collaboration with AKA Creative Group from concept to
execution," Niksic said. "I helped create the overall look and feel for
the show, this included sets and special effects. We built a large pond
surrounded by massive Christmas trees, lights and snow. Basically, we
brought winter indoors."
Kinsella said, "Nancy was a strong addition to the art department in her
roles as an art director and lead set decorator. Nancy's energy,
creativity and attention to detail as well as her dedication to
staying on budget led to the visual success of this project."
Gemini nominated actor and comedian Russell Peters hosts the annual Christmas special. John Brunton, a 15-time Gemini
winner, executive produced the show. It is broadcast nationally on
Canada's CTV and The Comedy Network.
The hour-long production featured Peters performing Christmas-themed
stand-up comedy and sketches with co-stars Pamela Anderson, Michael
Bublé, Jon Lovitz, Scott Thompson and more.
Niksic is previously known for production designing 26 episodes for the
Independent Film Channel (IFC) TV series, The Jon Dore Show. She also was the Set Decorator on the 2003 comedy short film The Truth About the Head, which won the Kodak Short Film, Prix Regards Jeune and Young Critics
awards at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
Niksic served as set dec buyer on 13 episodes for the upcoming NetFlix
series, Hemlock Grove, starring Famke Janssen and Dougray Scott. Eli Roth is one of the shows
executive producers. It is slated to release April 19.
