Cleveland introduces new canine officers

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

The Cleveland Division of Police is proud to welcome veteran Patrol Officer Doug Nichols to the Canine Unit, along with the department's newest member, Hugo.

Officer Nichols was appointed to the Cleveland Division of Police on January 3, 1994. He has served the citizens of the City of Cleveland in the Third District and in the Downtown Services Unit. Throughout his career with the division, Patrol Officer Nichols has received awards including the Medal of Honor.

Hugo is a German Shepard and is 2-years-old. Hugo was born in the Czech Republic and takes his primary commands in Czech. His favorite toy is a tennis ball and he loves to eat.

Hugo finished the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy and is a certified Police Canine. Hugo will live with Patrol Officer Nichols and his family.
